Somerset View Somerset, TA11

A beautiful detached modern house in the somerset countryside, approximately 1 hour from Bath/Bristol and 2.5 hrs from West London.

The design was a collaboration between husband and wife team Architect and Interior Designer.

The house is built into the hillside and has a large wrap-around veranda to allow year-round outside use, it is clad in green oak. The plot is a quarter of an acre but borrows far reaching views into the neighbouring ancient cider orchard and surrounding fields. There are no direct neighbours.

Inside the house, the top floor rooms (kitchen, dining, sitting room, office, guest bedroom) are lined in oak boards (with the exception of the bedroom) and have painted strip wood ceilings which follow the sloping roof shape. The kitchen and dining area is the largest space with bi-folding doors which open up onto the veranda as well as a huge window looking east over the orchard. The sitting room is cosy and snug with a wood-burner and concrete hearth.

The lower floor rooms (3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms) are lined with painted plywoods panels and have ceilings of exposed painted beams. Floors are oak boards throughout with two areas of stone in the entrance hall and master ensuite bathroom.

The interiors have a modern-country feel, pretty much everything is bespoke and designed by the owners. Storage is mainly built-in so there aren’t wardrobes etc cluttering the space.

The house is flooded with natural light with far reaching views out of the windows to the surrounding countryside.

Private parking available for up to four cars. Additional parking can be arranged nearby by prior arrangement.

As the majority of this property is made from soft timbers, outdoor shoes are not suitable within this location. Extra care should be taken when moving equipment as walls will damage easily and repair is time consuming and can be costly.
