At Shootfactory, we know that the right location can make all the difference in capturing the essence of a collection. For Porta Romana’s Autumn Collection, the setting needed to reflect the brand’s craftsmanship and artistic heritage. The choice of West Wycombe Park, an 18th-century Palladian villa, provided the perfect stage—a place where history, classical design, and beautifully curated interiors came together to enhance the timeless quality of these new pieces.
West Wycombe Park is no ordinary country house. With grand colonnades, ornate ceilings, and historic tapestries, it tells a story in every detail. The Dashwood family home has remained a striking example of European influence on British architecture for over three centuries. Its carefully preserved rococo landscape gardens, classical statues, and winding pathways create an air of theatricality, making it an inspired choice for a brand that takes design seriously.
The house itself is a work of art. From richly carved wood panelling to gold-leaf detailing, it provided a setting that complimented the handcrafted nature of Porta Romana’s lighting, furniture, and mirrors. The depth and texture of each piece were accentuated by the play of light across frescoed ceilings, hand-painted walls, and antique furnishings.
Porta Romana has always been known for its commitment to British craftsmanship. Each lamp, table, and mirror is hand-finished by expert artisans using techniques refined over decades. The Autumn Collection introduces new designs alongside refreshed interpretations of long-standing favourites designed to be cherished for generations.
One of the standout pieces featured in the shoot is the ‘Lucille’ lamp, a handblown glass creation that glows in shades of amber, lemongrass, and cerulean. Positioned against the rich wood tones of West Wycombe’s drawing room, it became a statement of both colour and form. The ‘Calder’ table lamp, with its sculptural nod to surrealism and motherhood, was another highlight, its fluid lines enhanced by the contrast of West Wycombe’s bold classical surroundings.
The ‘Ginny’ lamp, a striking three-shade design with a hand-forged structure, was particularly at home in the mansion’s grand interiors. Finished with plaster, paint, gold leaf, wax, and tinted varnishes, it echoed the painstaking attention to detail in the house’s original 18th-century craftsmanship. The collection also introduced the ‘Giacometti’ bookshelf, a geometric frame of textured metal paired with blackened oak, a striking piece that stood effortlessly against the deep heritage colours of the house.
The decision to shoot at West Wycombe was about more than aesthetics—it was about storytelling. The mansion’s history, layered interiors, and carefully maintained gardens mirrored Porta Romana’s ethos: a deep respect for artistry, materials, and tradition.
Each room offered a different perspective on the collection, whether the soft play of natural light through the windows, the contrast between aged wooden floors and contemporary lamp designs, or the reflections in antique mirrors that framed Porta Romana’s sculptural forms. Using the persimmon-hued ‘Finley’ lamp against dark panelled walls created a striking contrast, proving how a bold colour choice can breathe life into a heritage setting.
Outside, the rococo gardens’ statues, temples, and water features provided an additional layer of depth. The natural surroundings tied into the organic, sculptural forms of Porta Romana’s new designs, reinforcing the connection between craftsmanship and nature.
This was more than just a product shoot—it was an opportunity to highlight how Porta Romana pieces work in real spaces, whether grand historic homes or modern interiors. The shoot at West Wycombe Park allowed each design to tell its story, proving that beautiful, well-crafted pieces never go out of style.
At Shootfactory, we believe in locations that inspire creativity, and this collaboration with Porta Romana was a perfect example of how setting and design can work together to create something truly special.
